Show report from Pat Norman, Show Manager The 2005 Show was very well attended. The Show’s sponsors were most generous. The Croydon Valentines – each of the Pedigree Adult, Kitten and Neuter BoVs and the Non-Pedigree Cat and Kitten received a £10 cash prize kindly offered and generously donated by R & L Products (the lovely Bob and Isla), Hills goody bags and large bags of food from James Wellbeloved. Royal Canin gave each of the Kitten Valentines a goody bag and a sample to each exhibit. Gloria Barker arranged for us to receive the James Wellbeloved gift of a large bag of food for each of the Valentines and a sample for every exhibit; not only that but arranged for Mr and Mrs Gooding to distribute the samples to each pen on the morning of the Show. Our Sponsors are warmly thanked for their generosity. It was a pleasure to welcome the “Old Team” back at the Show; our former Joint Show Managers, Jean Gamble judging in the Pedigree Sections and Jackie Pell judging in the Non-Pedigree Section, along with Elaine and John Robinson. Our dear President, Mrs Cynthia Stephens, attended the Show and awarded her President’s Special Rosettes to Mrs Potter’s DUKE, Mrs Allen’s TWIXIE and Mrs Tolhurst’s HEIDI. John and Stephanie Roberts came all the way from Leicestershire especially to run the raffle. With the prospect of a first prize of £100 kindly donated by Mrs Stephens, many tickets were sold and raised the grand sum of £373.80, which I think is a record for our Show, and shows how hard John and Stephanie worked! Behind the scenes there were so many workers that it’s difficult to know where to start! However, here goes – thanks go to Brian Gregory who dealt with all formalities relating to the selection of the Croydon Valentines; Brian also completed the BoB charts and then assisted in distribution of the medals to the winners. Thanks to Anthony Allgood who ran the admin table with his usual aplomb – aided and abetted by the usual band of slaves without whom the Show just would not take place. The rosette distribution was masterminded by Pam Kratz, our Cups Secretary, and distributed by another band of happy workers. Thank you all very much. Front of house – thanks go to Sarah Johnson who secured the services of the Vets who were, as usual, superb, dealing with each Exhibitor and cat with skill and humour. Steve Morris looked after the mechanics of “Vetting in”, ably assisted by Pat and Francis de Courcy Rolls and our Judges’ Host, Club Secretary, Sue Deane, and her assistant Paul Esterford-Howard. Many, many thanks to our Judges, and their Stewards, who worked had and fast, handling the cats with their usual kindness, skill, care and attention to detail so that the Croydon Valentines could be chosen. The Committee were absolute gems - Sarah Johnson for seeing things and dealing with them, Sue Deane and Brenda Barrowman for dealing with the financial transactions and assisting Laura Whitmarsh with fielding queries and corrections throughout the day; and our friends Pat, Francis and Michelle - thank you all very much. Mike Buckridge manned the gate all day – thank you Mike your assistance was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to Ted Wilding and Robin Kempe for coping with the long walks to the awards boards and back. Thanks to M & F Penning who did a great job and John and Andrea Richardson who supplied us with lovely rosettes. Assistant Show Managers, Bill Watkins (who also looked after the Hall Manager) and Steve Morris certainly won their wings and will be with us again next year. Last, but by no means least, thanks to all the Exhibitors and their lovely cats, without them there could not be a Show. I was sorry when the day came to an end and I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. I hope that the proud owners enjoyed their bubbly while the Croydon Valentines murdered their balloons when they got home. See you all at the same place on 11th February 2006.
